Shri Vyadeshwar Temple
Shri Vyadeshwar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Guhagar, in Ratnagiri District. It is considered to be the Kuladevata (Clan God) of many Chitpavan families of the Konkan region.
According to Hindu Mythology, sage Parshurama shot an arrow into the sea and commanded the Sea God to retract to the point of the arrow. That land given up by sea came to be known as Konkan.
Parshuram was a devotee of Lord Shiva. He requested God to appear to him daily, so Shiva appeared in 60 places where the temples were being built. Sage Vyadi had installed a Shiv lingam in one of the temples. That temple became known as Shri Vyadeshwar Temple. It is believed that Shiva appears in this Temple in invisible form. It is considered to be one of the top attractions in Konkan.
Anjanwel Lighthouse
Anjanwel is a beautiful town in Konkan, Maharashtra. It is located in Guhagar taluka and is near Shantai By The Lake. There are many beautiful places in Anjanwel such as the beach, fort and the Anjanwel Lighthouse.
The Anjanwel Lighthouse was built to keep an eye on the trades happening in the ocean and direct the boats during nighttime.
The timings are from 3 PM to 5 PM. You have to pay a small fee to visit the lighthouse. There is a small temple, Talekeshwar Temple near the lighthouse.
Gopalgarh Fort
Gopalgarh Fort is one of the most famous places to visit in Konkan. The fort has many historical tales to tell. The fort overlooks the Arabian Sea. It is also known as Anjanwel Fort. The fort was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from Mohammad Adil Shah of Bijapur in 1660. Subsequently, the fort has exchanged hands several times, following ultimately to Colonel Kennedy in 1818.
The fort is spread over 7 acres and is rectangular with a dry moat on all sides. The Anjanwel Lighthouse is about 2 Kilometres from the fort. It is one of the main places to visit in Konkan.
Dabhol/Harnai Fish Market
The Harnai Fish Market is one of the biggest fish markets in Maharashtra. It is close to the beach and the port. Fresh fish comes twice a day.
You can find all kinds of seafood, ranging from king prawns, squid, fresh fish like surmai, pomfret, bangada etc. The fish market is chaotic, filled with fishermen selling the fish and the customers bargaining and buying them. For an extra price, you can get the fish descaled and cleaned for you.
Velneshwar Beach And Temple
If you want to experience a virgin beach which has less crowd, then Velneshwar beach is the place for you! The beach is surrounded by coconut trees and a pristine blue sea. This is one of the best places to visit in Konkan, especially from our lakeside resort.
Located at the beach is the Velneshwar Temple. The temple is 1200 years old and interestingly, one part of the temple is submerged in the sea.
Hedvi Ganesh Temple
The temple is located around 20 Kilometres from the Resort. It is also known as Dasabhuj Ganesh Temple. The temple was constructed during the Peshwa Era and is carved magnificently from white marble.
It is said that the Peshwa's gave one lakh rupees to build the temple. The Ganesh Idol is said to be constructed in Kashmir. The temple is located in Hedvi Beach. One should not that the beach is not suitable for swimming. It is one of the famous temples in Konkan and you should pay a visit.
Parshuram Temple
Parshuram Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Parshuram, the sixth Avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is located in Chiplun in the Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra. Lord Parshuram is a Chiranjivi or an immortal avatar. After killing those Kshatriya kings who were unrighteous during the 21 battles, he donated the entire earth to Maharishi Kashyap.
He launched an arrow in the Arabian Sea and pushed the sea back, and reclaimed the lands of Konkan. He chose the village in the Mahendradragiri Creek as his residence.
The temple was built by the initiative of Swami Paramhas Brahmendra. Siddi Rasul Yakut Khan financially aided in the construction of the temple in 1700.
